The Cornwall Caledonian
Pipe & Drum Band
At
present the band has as its Pipe Major Dave King. Dave is fully
experienced with pipe and drum bands having some 30 years service
and experience with both Military and civilian pipe bands, he has
also been very active within the field of pipe band competitions
both in England and Scotland.
The Piping section has Alan Tweedy, an accomplished piper, who offers
excellant tuition to the learner pipers, whilst both Dave Maitland
and Alan Mackenzie, together with the Pipe Major, offer tuition
to the more experienced pipers within the band.
Drumming tuition is also of a high quality
being given locally by Tennor drummer Mike Cleaver ex R.A.F and
by Snare drummer Don Pennington, also well versed in competition
drumming.
It is with great regret that we sadly lost
our dear friend Ian Oldaham McCrea, Ian, also a drum tutor put so
much valuable experience into our Drum team that he will not be
forgotten.
The band also uses tape courses coming from other very experienced
drummers from other bands in the South.
Recently the band has been joined by members from the Plymouth branch
of the Cornwall Caledonian Pipe Band ably run by Pipe Sergeant Matt
Campbell. This joint venture will strengthen the overall band and
will lead to joint engagements and practice being undertaken between
both us in the future.
Band Practice is held at 3 seperate
venues, Wednesday evening at Plymouth, Monday evening at Lanner,
Nr Redruth and Thursday evening at Mabe Burthouse Nr Falmouth. Full
details are given on the Contacts page
At present we are taking advantage
of affiliated membership with the Mabe Youth Organisation and The
Camborne Community Forum, The Pride of Murray Pipe Band area tuition
programme from the South and hopefully soon as full members of the
Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association ( Southern Branch ).
The Band is available to undertake
special musical engagements for Carnivals, Stage shows, Fetes etc
and with some individual solo musicians available for Weddings,
Funerals and other such requirements.
At present the band functions in the Standard No1 Uniform and No
2 Highland Dress, either in the now adopted Black Stewart Tartan,
or in the Mixed Clan or Military Tartans of its band members, with
some members appearing in the Cornish Tartan, which always proves
of great interest.
